CHEERS!
Cooler weather, pumpkin patches, and cozy drinks have us in the fall mood. Bring on the vibes — and the cider with a kick!
Hot Spiked Mulled Apple Cider
Ingredients:
8 cups (2 liters) apple cider
1 orange, sliced
3 cinnamon sticks
5-6 whole cloves
3-4 star anise pods (optional, for extra flavor)
1 teaspoon whole allspice (optional)
1/4 cup brown sugar (adjust to taste)
1/2 to 1 cup spiced rum, bourbon, or whiskey (adjust for preferred strength)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Fresh apple slices or cinnamon sticks for garnish
Instructions:
In a large pot, combine the apple cider, orange slices, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, allspice, and brown sugar. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.
Once the cider starts to simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it cook for 20–30 minutes, allowing the spices to infuse.
Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the spiced rum, bourbon, or whiskey. (Start with 1/2 cup and taste, then add more if desired.)
Stir in the vanilla extract if you’d like a bit of extra warmth and flavor.
Strain the cider into mugs to remove the spices and orange slices. Garnish with fresh apple slices or a cinnamon stick. CHEERS!
